O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a prevalência de DTM nos pacientes que procuraram o otorrinolaringologista com queixa de otalgia, sendo excluídos os pacientes com otalgia primária. Aplicou-se o questionário da Academia Europeia de Disfunções Craniomandibulares. Setenta e cinco indivíduos responderam afirmativamente a pelo menos uma das quatro perguntas do questionário. Todos foram encaminhados à clínica da pesquisadora para avaliação clínica que obedeceu aos critérios do RDC/TMD. (Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders), embora somente 50 tenham comparecido. Colhidos os dados, foram tabulados e processados utilizando os programas SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences), Minitab16 e Exel Office 2010. Os resultados obtidos foram: 10% dos indivíduos enquadraram-se na categoria Sem Classificação, 78% apresentaram Dor Miofascial, 18% apresentaram Dor Miofascial com Limitação de Abertura; 24% apresentaram Deslocamento do Disco com Redução e 18% tinham Artralgia. Desta forma, concluiu-se que 90% dos pacientes encaminhados pelos otorrinolaringologistas com queixa de Otalgia e que não apresentavam evidências de otite externa aguda e otite média aguda apresentava um ou mais tipos de DTM e que a Dor Miofascial apresentou-se diferente estatística entre todas as outras.

The aim of this research was to evaluate the prevalence of TMD in patients seeking otorhynolaryngologists with otalgia. There were excluded patients with primary otalgy.It was applied the Questionnaire of the European Academy of Craniomandibular Disorders. Seventy-five individuals answered affirmatively to at least one of the four questions in the questionnaire. All patients were referred to the clinical researcher who followed the criteria of the RDC/TMD (research diagnostic criteria for temporomandibular disorders), although, only 50 have attended. Collected data were tabulated and processes using SPSS (Statisitical Package for the Social Sciences), Minitab16 Exel and Office 2010. The results were: 10% of subjects were classified in the category No Rating, 78% had Myofascial Pain, Myofascial Pain 18% presented with limitation of opening, 24% had disc displacement with reduction and 18% had arthralgia. Thus, it was concluded that 90% of patients referred by otolaryngologists complaining of otalgia and with no evidence of acute otitis externa and acute otitis media presents one or more types of TMD Pain and Myofascial presented statistically different among all the others.
