O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar pacientes em tratamento ortodôntico utilizando elástico tipo classe III bilateral em 4 períodos distintos: a) antes do emprego do elástico; b) um dia após a instalação dos mesmos; c) uma semana após; d) um mês a partir da fase A. Verificando o comportamento da dor nesse período, em relação a: 1) Sintomatologia dolorosa e 2) mobilidade da mandíbula. Foram avaliados 20 pacientes do Hospital de Aeronáutica dos Afonsos, na cidade do Rio de Janeiro/RJ, entre os anos de 2012 e 2013. Pacientes de ambos os gêneros, com idades entre 12 e 60 anos, em tratamento ortodôntico, sem extrações e que empregassem o elástico tipo Classe III bilateral foram selecionados. Houve diferença significativa para o sintoma dor para os períodos B e C, quando comparados ao período A , entretanto, não houve diferença estatística quando o período D foi comparado com o A. Não houve diferença estatística para alteração da dinâmica mandibular. No período A, 100% da amostra apresentou abertura normal. No período b, ou seja, um dia após, 80% da abertura, enquanto que nos períodos c e d. 90% da amostra apresentou abertura normal. Concluimos que o comportamento da dor quanto a sintomatologia dolorosa, foi presente nos momentos da instalação do elástico, diminuindo com o passar do tempo e quanto a mobilidade da mandíbula, os parâmetros não se alteraram de forma significativa com a instalação dos elásticos.

The objective of this study was to evaluate patients in orthodontic treatment using elastic class type III bilateral in 4 distinct periods: a) before the use of elastic; b) one day after installing them; c) a week after; d) one month from phase A. Verifying pain behavior in this period, in relation to: 1) Pain symptoms and 2) mobility of the jaw. 20 patients at the clinic of Hospital de Aeronáutica dos Afonsos, located in Rio de Janeiro / RJ, between the years 2012 and 2013 were evaluated. Having been selected patients of both genders, aged between 12 and 60 years of orthodontic treatment with use of elastic type bilateral Class III without extractions. The results in relation to the symptom of pain b and c period showed that in most patients complained of pain, differing in the period. Among these two intermediate periods, the period b showed more statistically significant. When comparing the period d with the initial, this difference was no longer present period. Regarding change of mandibular dynamics in the beging, 100 % of patients had normal opening. After 1 day of treatment, 80 % of patients had this characteristic. At 7 and 30 days of treatment, 90 % of patients had normal opening. In this case, all between times there was no statistical difference when compared to the long "a". We conclude that the behavior of the pain as pain symptoms was present in the moments of the elastic installation, decreasing with the passage of time and the mobility of the mandible, the parameters did not change significantly with the installation of the elastic.
