Estimar qual o melhor período biológico, eleger qual o melhor aparelho Ortopédico para tratar a má-oclusão de Padrão Classe II esquelética vem sendo o desafio de todos os Ortodontistas ao longo dos anos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar o crescimento mandibular em função da fase de maturação óssea (avaliada através da morfologia de vértebras cervicais), durante o tratamento da maloclusão de Padrão Classe II esquelética, utilizando-se dois tipos diferentes de aparelhos ortopédicos o Bionator de Balters e Herbst. A amostra foi formada por 240 telerradiografias de indivíduos sem prévio tratamento ortodôntico ou ortopédico facial na faixa etária de sete a 17anos. Sendo agrupadas pela fase vertebral , gênero e aparelho utilizado. Os resultados mostraram que o aparelho de Herbst demonstrou uma superioridade no tratamento do Padrão Classe II esquelética com retrognatismo mandibular quando comparado ao tratamento com o aparelho Bionator de Balters, sendo constatado em todas as fases de maturação óssea vertebral em ambos os gêneros.

Evaluate the best period biological, which elects the aproprieted Orthopedic device for treatment maloclusion Class II skeletal pattern has been the challenge of Orthodontists all over the past years. The objective of this study was to compare the mandibular growth in light of the stage of maturation (assessed by the morphology of the cervical vertebrae) for the treatment of malocclusion Class II skeletal pattern, using two different types of braces. The sample consisted of 240 teleradiographs of individuals with no previous orthodontic or orthopedic facial aged seven to 17. Being grouped by stage vertebral gender and apparatus used. The results showed that the apparatus Herbst showed superiority for the treatment of skeletal Class II pattern with mandibular retrognathia compared to treatment with the device observed all phases of maturation in both vertebral genres.
