Nos últimos anos surgiram várias informações sobre a possível relação entre doença periodontal e doença cardiovascular. Diversos trabalhos científicos comprovam uma associação significante entre esses parâmetros. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar o grau de comprometimento da doença periodontal e sua influência na frequência de eventos adversos em pacientes portadores de doença cardiovascular isquêmica grave. Cento e oito pacientes com lesões das artérias epicárdicas ? 70%, divididos aleatoriamente em dois grupos: caso (tratado pelo pesquisador) e controle (orientado a procurar tratamento especializado). O exame periodontal seguiu os parâmetros de Couper et al. (2008), sendo analisados profundidade de sondagem, presença de sangramento, biofilme dental,recessão gengival e perda de inserção. Porém, é possível observar que dentre as pessoas com eventos adversos, maioria tem periodontite avançada (24,6%). Todas as medidas avaliadas apresentaram diferença significativa (p < 0,05), mostrando que, estatisticamente, houve efeito do tratamento periodontal não cirúrgico, porém, este não demonstrou diferença significante na incidência de eventos vasculares adversos.

In recent years there have been various information about the possible relationship between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease. Several scientific studies show a significant association between these parameters. The aim of this study was to assess the degree of impairment of periodontal disease and its influence on the frequency of adverse events in patients with severe cardiovascular disease. One hundred and eight patients with lesions ? 70% were randomly divided into two groups: cases and controls. The periodontal examination followed parameters Couper et al. (2008). After treatment, significant associations were found in both the severity and the extent of periodontal disease (p <0.05). However, it is possible to observe that among people with adverse events, most have advanced periodontitis, while those who have not, the percentages are divided into classes of periodontitis (24.6% only in Advanced). All measurements showed significant differences (p <0.05), showing that statistically significant effect of treatment, however, this does not demonstrate a significant difference in the incidence of adverse vascular events.
