A deficiência mastigatória é uma grande desvantagem presente em próteses totais. Além disso, a falta de retenção, estabilidade e estética torna esse tipo de tratamento um desafio para os profissionais da área odontológica. Com a chegada dos implantes e inovação nos sistemas de encaixe, as próteses vêm sendo melhoradas na busca de devolver ao paciente estética, fonética e principalmente função e uma melhor qualidade de vida. Será apresentada uma revisão de literatura a respeito das overdentures sobre implantes buscando auxiliar o profissional na escolha do sistema de retenção.

Masticatory deficiency is a big disadvantange in conventional dentures. In addition, the lack of retention, stability and esthetics makes this type of treatment a challenge for dental professionals. With the arrival of the implants and innovation of attachments systems, the prostheses have been improved to give esthetics, phonetics and especially function and a better quality of life to the patients. A literature review about implant-suported overdentures will be present, aimed help the professionals to choose the attachment system.
