Treatment with zygomatic implants has increased over the last few years, mainly because they are an alternative to bone grafts. There are many studies in the literature about success rates and complications, however, few have evaluated the satisfaction of individuals in relation to this type of therapy. The aim of this research was to evaluate the satisfaction of individuals with atrophic maxilla, rehabilitated with complete dentures, anchored on zygomatic implants, with anesthetic procedures as variables: General or local anesthesia with endovenous or oral sedation. By means of the clinical record charts from the Training Course in Advanced Hospital Surgeries for Implant Dentists conducted at the Campinas-SP unit of the São Leopoldo Mandic School of Dentistry, 30 patients were selected. They had zygomatic implant placement surgeries performed, and were rehabilitated with implant supported complete dentures, between the years 2005 and 2011. One group of 15 individuals underwent surgery in hospital with general anesthesia. The other 15 were treated in the post-graduation clinic, under local anesthesia and sedation. Data was collected by means of a personalized questionnaire, associated with a visual analog scale of 10 cm. From the emotional point of view, the Wilcoxon test revealed that irrespective of the anesthesia procedure used, in the pre-operative time interval, the emotional condition of individuals differed from that verified in the post-operative period (p < 0.0001). When the reported characteristics were compared, considering the anesthesia procedure, from the results of the G test it was observed that there were no significant differences between the individuals belonging to the group submitted to general anesthesia and those submitted to local anesthesia with sedation, both in the pre-operative (p = 0.1871), and post-operative (p = 0.1641) time intervals. For all the satisfaction indicators evaluated, the Mann-Whitney test revealed that there was no significant difference between the satisfaction of individuals submitted to general or local anesthesia with sedation. The Exact Fisher test revealed that there was no difference between the frequency of positive and negative responses about treatment expectations, when comparing general anesthesia with local anesthesia with sedation(p = 0.5000). For the studied sample, it was concluded that there was no significant difference between the two groups with regard to the anesthetic procedure. The general satisfaction was high, there was emotional improvement in the post-operative condition, thereby improving the quality of life.
