O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as alterações da largura buco-lingual do rebordo alveolar, após a colocação de implantes imediatos com uso de Straumann Bone Ceramic® (SBC) em regiões estéticas. Foram avaliadas em 20 pacientes as larguras buco-linguais dos rebordos alveolares em 20 sítios por meio de tomografias computadorizadas. As medidas foram realizadas antes e no período posterior a seis meses das extrações e colocação imediata de implantes. Em 11 pacientes (11 sítios) (Grupo 1) o SBC foi colocado entre a parede bucal do rebordo alveolar e o implante. Em nove pacientes (nove sítios) (Grupo 2) foram realizados os mesmas avaliações e procedimentos, mas sem o uso do SBC. As dimensões buco-linguais do rebordo alveolar do Grupo 1 (SBC) não apresentaram diferenças significativas do pré-operatório (8,5±1,0) para o período de seis meses após a cirurgia (8,8±0,9) (p=0,14). No Grupo 2 as diferenças nas dimensões buco-linguais do rebordo alveolar foram estatisticamente significantes (p=0,01) com redução das dimensões existentes no pré-operatório de 8,1±0,7 para 7,0±0,4 no período posterior a seis meses. O uso do SBC foi efetivo na preservação das dimensões buco-linguais dos rebordos alveolares nas cirurgias de implantes imediatos.

The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in bucco-lingual width of the alveolar ridge after immediate implant placement using the Straumann Bone Ceramic® (SBC) in esthetic regions. The bucco-lingual widths of the alveolar ridge in 20 extraction sites in 20 patients were assessed using computed tomography. Measurements were performed before and 6 months after extractions and immediate implant placement. In the Group 1, SBC was placed in the between the buccal wall of the alveolar ridge and implant. In 9 patients (9 sites) (Group 2) the same evaluations and procedures were performed, but without using SBC. The bucco-lingual dimensions of the alveolar ridge in Group 1 (SBC) did not show significant changes between baseline (8.5±1.0) and 6-month period after surgery (8.8±0.9) (p=0.14). In Group 2, the differences in the bucco-lingual dimensions of the alveolar ridge were statistically significant (p=0.01) with a reduction of dimensions from 8.1±0.7 during the pre-operative period to 7.0±0.4 6 at months after surgery. The use of the SBC was effective to preserve the bucco-lingual dimensions of the alveolar ridges following immediate implant surgeries.
